Alex T in P3a took part in the Edinburgh No3 2017 Aquathon wining the 8 year old even
( at 7). A very well done to him and to all the other SMPS boys and girls who took part.
P6 School Board Cup: The team took part in the recent competition and have been congratulated for their ‘great team spirit’.
A selection of pupils across P6 took part in the annual Sports at the Hub event at FHS. The team won the Hockey tournament and only just missed out on reaching the Netball finals.
P7 have been enjoying skiing at Hillend this term. It has been quite a sight watching them depart by bus from school each week in full ski-gear.
This year the sports competition was held in beautiful weather in Hermitage Park. Comiston House were overall winners but it was a very enjoyable morning with great effort from all.
We are already planning changes for next session to make the event run more smoothly, including the need for shade and water if hot weather is predicted.
We were very grateful for the assistance of the Police in crossing the busy roads around Greenbank.
Children were split in to mixed year groups within their houses this year. This seemed to go particularly well and enabled an equal distribution of children across activities : in other words……..more turns !.
This week was the opening of the General Assembly on the Mound. The choir were asked to perform by the office of the Moderator Dr Rev Derek Browning.: our local minister from Morningside Parish Church. The boys and girls sang the opening hymn and pupils from P4 and P5 performed the reading.
HRH princess Anne was in attendance. Certainly something to remember for our youngsters.
Two of our very valued PSA’s have left SMPS this term. Mrs Wendy McMenamy has located to the borders area to be nearer her family and after many years of service Mrs Fiona Holmes has decided on a change of career path. We wish them both well.
Interviews for replacement staff are underway and we hope to have permanent staff in post for next session.
Mrs Morgan ( DHT ) has successfully completed her Headship training programme and graduated with distinction. We are all very proud of her and her commitment to life long learning. An excellent example to both our students and teachers.
Reporting and Profiling:
Mrs Richmond has organised a series of informal feedback mornings before the end of term to look at what’s gone well and what needs some more thinking about for next session.
This is a three year change project and we are interested in the views of parents, pupils and staff as we make our plans for next session. Parents are invited to attend a series of coffee mornings where displays of engagement strategies have been produced by the class teachers.
Today there was another magnificent turn out from parents of P6A for their Rights Respecting UNICEF Assembly.
British General Election : June 8th 2017
At Comiston rd, the main school will be closed to all pupils. Teaching staff will be busy in school, however, reviewing courses and programmes and undertaking much needed resources management.
The school will be open to all pupils on Friday 9th June.
