Our P6 and P7 classes each have a block of skiing lessons at Hillend as part of the PE curriculum, and many who have never been on skis before end up acjeiving a good basic level in a fun and healthy sport.
However, not all of the pupils are beginners – the parent council clubs feature popular weekly skiing classes (and even snowboarding for the adventurous!) available for pupils from P3 to P7.
And… we are very proud of our outstanding SMPS Skiing teams, expertly organised and coached by parent Alexa Guy. The trophy cabinet at the Comiston Road site is full of trophies they have brought back for us over the past few years, and it seems they are working hard to do the same again this year!
The teams have recently competed in the finals of the SSSLA Dual Slalom competition, a brilliant achievement in itself!
Their next and final competition of the year is the Boys Anderson Trophy, on Monday 4th of December. Good luck from all at SMPS!
“The SMPS teams did a fantastic job at the SSSA Dual slalom finals in Braehead. Both the novice and the open team came 3rd in their pool and a potential 5th overall among the best 18 schools in Scotland, in very tough, icy conditions (and with a 2 hour delay) A special mention to Max who stepped in and skied for both teams (all day) when we were a skier short. A real exercise in resilience and teamwork! “
