We had a fascinating visit from Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue today. They brought two specialist Land Rovers, a backpack full of important items, a mountain rescue stretcher AND, most excitingly, two search and rescue dogs. There was an older Border Collie, called Chivas, and a Labrador-cross, called Rauour (pronounced Row-ther), who has a commendation for his rescue efforts which you can read about here. Photos of our visitors to follow . . .
This week, we are learning about Easter and Spring customs from around the world, attending the whole school Easter assembly (led by the P4s) and doing some Easter/Spring crafts.
Our learning on money continues with some work on calculating change. We are using our knowledge about subtraction strategies to help us with this – the jump strategy has been particularly useful. This is something you can practise at home (see below for homework).
We will be sending home gym bags this week so that kit can be cleaned and replaced, if necessary. We will also be sending home all pencil cases to be checked. Please could you make sure that, when they return after the break, your child has several writing pencils, coloured pencils, a rubber, a pencil sharpener and a glue stick in their pencil case. Ideally, please limit them to one pencil case as we keep them on the tables and there is limited space.
Here is this week’s homework:
- Reading – See individual reading/homework books/diaries.
- Reading Challenge – Please keep noting any books read at home.
- Spelling – No new spelling this week – please use this as a revision week.
- Maths – This week’s focus in maths is finding change within £2 (or more or less. than that, depending on your child’s level). Checkout (get it?!) these tablet-friendly games for practise:
