As part of their Health and Wellbeing subjects, all our P6 pupils receive a block of ‘Bikeability training’, in which they learn and practice cycling with emphasis on road safety.

The Bikeability programme, promoted by the Department of Transport,  generally runs in the Spring term after the February holidays and is facilitated by our wonderful Bikeability Trainers, all of whom are SMPS parent-volunteers.

Bikeability training

Our Bikeability programme is a very well established and valuable part of our PE programme for P6.
Parent Helpers are a crucial part of Bikeability – we cannot run it without the commitment and support of parents who work with small groups of children to deliver a very carefully structured programme.
We are already planning ahead to next year, and we are looking for parents who might be interested in being part of the parent team delivering Bikeability next session.
Full training is provided by Tony Segall, our Active Schools coordinator, to enable parents to deliver the Bikeability, and Tony is hoping to run training sessions before the summer holidays.
If you would be interested in attending the training, please contact Tony Segall on
