Welcome to our final week of this term.

HOMEWORK

The home work assigned for this week is outlined below. Please remember to bring in your written maths homework before the end of this week.

  • Reading for pleasure – this week set aside at least 10 minutes each day to read a book of your choice. See Mrs Morgans news letter for more information on reading challenges.
  • Spelling pattern this week is ‘tion’ Your child will have their own personal list with them, should you wish to practise them. Below is the complete list of words containing this pattern.

MATHS

  • Practise all times tables. For a challenge try reverse tables e.g. 48= 6×8. This will help with division.

TOPIC

  • Your child will come home with an A4 sheet outlining their topic homework to be carried out over the next few weeks (Please have this completed by the end of the  week beginning 28th October). Below is a copy of this sheet for your information.

MATHS

  • This week the children have been given written homework which revises the whole number work carried out in class so far. They have a paper copy in their bags.
    • Reading and writing numbers up to 100,000
    • Understanding Place Value for numbers up to 1,000,000,  know that a digit’s value depends on its place within a number
    • Setting out vertical algorithms for addition and subtraction sums with bridging and exchange
    • Rounding to nearest 10, 100 or 1000.
    • The link between rounding and estimating.
  • Maths  homework should be handed in week beginning:-
    • Monday 7th October

  • On the back of this sheet is an OPTIONAL maths challenge.  If you want to challenge your mathematical thinking and reasoning feel free to give this a go.  Remember you can always get help with this at home or ask your teacher if you need to.  Have fun and don’t worry if you find this challenging.

  • Spelling pattern this week is ‘ai’. Below is the complete list of words containing this pattern, with a few tricks thrown in to keep the children on their toes.

  • Mental Maths
    • Continue to work on all times tables and SPLIT / JUMP strategies from last week
    • To consolidate classroom learning:- practise rounding to 1000, 100 and 10 e.g. 4672 rounded to:-
      •  10 is 4670
      •  100 is 4700
      •  1000 is 5000

Remember “4 or less let it rest, 5 or more let it soar.” 0-4 do not change the digit, 5 -9 add one on.

Try challenging yourself to see how many you can do before making a mistake, how big a number can you round.
